Muscat: Indian School Muscat and Indian School Wadi Kabir lifted the Essa bin Mohammed Al Zedjali Rolling Trophy in the senior and junior categories of the Times of Oman Inter School Quiz Contest (TOOISQC) final.
It was a spectacular night, which saw students from across the country tackling the challenging posers put up by the quizmaster.
As predicted by the quizmaster, Giri ‘Pickbrain’ Balasubramaniam, the juniors’ quiz was more entertaining than the seniors’. The junior section also witnessed a close a fight between the Indian schools from Wadi Kabir, Muscat and Ghubra and the winners were selected through a tie breaker question between Wadi Kabir and Muscat.
According to Chethan Sethu, champion in the junior category, the answer to the tiebreaker question just popped up in his mind.
“I can’t believe it; it was really a miracle, I really don’t know how that answer came to my mind, it suddenly popped into my mind,” he said with happiness.
“I am really happy because I have been on the winning side for the second consecutive time,” Sethu added.
According to him, questions were not that tough and his teammate Adithya B Nair was a great support like his partner last year, Rahul R, who participated in the senior category this year.
“We are really happy to have won the trophy for our school,” Nair said. While acknowledging the enormous support from parents, the principal, vice-principal and all the teachers at school,” Nair said, “The support group that cheered for our team was amazing and kept us going till the end.”
“Special thanks to Hala Jamal for his guidance. Thanks to the Times of Oman for having this awesome quiz and Giri Sir and his team for this amazing night,” Sethu said.
The teams appreciated the format introduced by Balasubramaniam in the junior category this year. “We really enjoyed the new format, which gave everyone an equal chance to attempt all the questions,” a finalist said.
The quizmaster also appreciated the junior champions for their outstanding performance.
Quizzing in the senior category was not easy and many teams asserted that the questions were really tough. Even so, champions from the Indian School Muscat easily clinched the trophy from the other teams.
According to the champions in the senior category, Krithivaas Vijay and Aliva Das, the questions were easy and the format for the senior session was exciting.
“I am really happy and I don’t have any words express my happiness. Finally we won the prestigious Times of Oman trophy for our school after many years; feeling really proud,” Vijay said.
“I am really happy to receive this trophy at this stage and I can’t express my feeling in words,” Das said.
“I really want to thank my teachers, my principal, vice principal for giving us this opportunity,” she added.
