‘Oman Makers’ series launched to foster a culture of innovation and manufacturing

Muscat: The Oman Makers Centre on Monday launched the inaugural session of the “Oman Makers” series, part of its programme to foster a culture of innovation and manufacturing and to facilitate the exchange of expertise and knowledge among innovators, makers and entrepreneurs. The session was held at the Centre’s premises in Muscat Innovation Complex.

The “Oman Makers” sessions aim to create a dialogue space bringing together those with expertise and experience alongside innovators, makers and entrepreneurs, thereby contributing to the exchange of knowledge and expertise, stimulating innovation, and enhancing participants’ capacities to develop their ideas and transform them into manufacturable prototypes and products.

The first session, held under the title “Makers from Oman”, discussed a number of themes relating to the journey of transforming ideas into products, developing prototypes, and moving from the experimental prototype to a manufacturable and marketable product, alongside industrial localisation and the employment of modern technologies, artificial intelligence and drones, and the opportunities and challenges facing innovators, makers and entrepreneurs.

It is worth noting that Oman Makers Centre is the outcome of cooperation between the Research and Innovation Authority and the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates “Madayn”, represented by the Industrial Innovation Academy. It operates as an integrated platform for developing experimental prototypes, which constitute the initial step prior to moving to the commercial marketing of a project idea. 

The Centre seeks to train and qualify entrepreneurs and innovators in the use of the devices and equipment available at the Centre, enhance cooperation and the exchange of expertise, and support innovators in developing final manufacturable prototypes.
