Eleven climbers klled in avalanche in Russia's North Caucasus

Moscow: At least 11 climbers died and six others were injured in an avalanche in Russia's North Caucasus, according to emergency services in the Kabardino‑Balkaria region.

The avalanche swept down Mount Mizhirgi, one of the highest peaks in the Russian North Caucasus, striking a group of 33 climbers.

Emergency services said 10 climbers managed to descend the mountain on their own, while the fate of six others remains unknown.

More than 50 emergency personnel took part in the search and rescue operation, though efforts were hampered by rugged terrain and the high risk of further avalanches.
