Female TikToker with 1.3mn followers shot outside home in Pakistan

Islamabad: A 28-year-old TikToker with around 1.3 million followers was shot dead in Taxila after she was allegedly called out of her home by phone, while her 15-year-old sister was seriously injured in the firing and a subsequent vehicle crash, according to Express Tribune.

According to the FIR registered on a complaint by the deceased’s father, Fazal, Shamsu Bibi, also known as Ayesha, left her home on the evening of August 14 with her younger sister Asmiya Bibi and brother Nematullah.

According to Express Tribune, the family was travelling in a vehicle when motorcycle-riding attackers allegedly opened fire on them. Shamsu suffered multiple bullet injuries and died inside the vehicle, which went out of control and crashed during the attack. Her sister was seriously injured and was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad for treatment.

The FIR states that Shamsu had been active on TikTok for three to four years and had approximately 1.3 million followers. Her father told police that she had financial dealings with two individuals, Kausar and Javed alias Shaheen, and had allegedly received threats over demands for repayment of money.

He further alleged that shortly before the incident, a man identified as Kashi had telephoned his daughter and asked her to leave the house. Police are investigating whether the call was connected to the subsequent attack.

Investigators have collected evidence from the crime scene and are examining the vehicle for bullet marks, firing angles and other forensic clues. Shell casings recovered from the area are also expected to undergo forensic examination to determine whether they can be linked to the weapon used in the shooting.

Police are attempting to obtain CCTV footage from the route and surrounding areas to identify the attackers, trace their motorcycle and establish their escape route. Call data records and the victim’s recent phone contacts are also being examined to verify the circumstances surrounding the alleged call that brought her out of the house.

Investigators are also looking into Shamsu’s social media activity and recent interactions for any evidence of threats, disputes or suspicious contacts.

The alleged financial dealings mentioned in the FIR are another key line of inquiry as police work to establish the motive for the killing. The statements of Shamsu’s brother and injured sister are expected to be significant to the investigation, with the sister’s statement to be recorded once her medical condition allows.

Police have conducted the post-mortem examination and handed over the body to the family. Further findings from forensic and post-mortem reports will be incorporated into the investigation.
