Oman intensifies monitoring of fish safety amid marine oil pollution

MUSCAT,— The Food Safety and Quality Center is continuing field monitoring, investigation and control operations as part of ongoing efforts to assess developments related to oil pollution in Oman’s marine environment.

The measures aim to determine the extent of the pollution’s impact on fishing areas and verify the safety of fish and fish products available in the market.

As a precautionary measure, the center has intensified monitoring operations at fish landing sites, factories and fish markets, while tracking landing movements and the sources of catches.

The centre is also collecting fish samples for laboratory testing to assess their safety and ensure compliance with food safety requirements.

In addition, specialized technical teams have been formed to conduct field monitoring of coastal areas and fish landing sites in governorates along the Arabian Sea.

The measures are part of Oman’s continued response to the marine oil pollution incident and efforts to safeguard public health, fisheries and the marine environment.
