Ibra: The Directorate General of Agriculture and Water Resources in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate on Wednesday organised a gathering on the importance of water desalination units in the governorate.
The gathering saw the participation of representatives of private sector establishments, farmers, investors and technicians.
The Director General of Agriculture and Water Resources in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Ali Al Mashaikhi, said that the gathering was one of the outcomes of food security laboratories and forums being held in the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
Al Mashaikhi added that the gathering aimed to activate water desalination units to boost the Ministry’s objective of achieving sustainable food and water security.
The meeting included presentations by private sector establishments and a session to answer the queries of attendees.
During the meeting, held at the branch of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) in Ibra, a partnership agreement was signed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and Nada Al Rabee Company to provide technical support to citizens whose farms are impacted by salinity. The agreement provides for the installation of water desalination units in the interest of such farmers.
