
Muscat: The total refinery products output in the Sultanate of Oman declined by 6.8% by the end of May 2026, reaching 89.916 million barrels, compared to 96.522 million barrels during the corresponding period in 2025, according to the latest preliminary statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Motor gasoline production also declined by 5.5% during the same period.
The statistics showed that production of Regular Motor Gasoline (M91) fell by 7.8 % to 6.814 million barrels by the end of May 2026, compared with 7.391 million barrels during the same period of 2025.
Sales of M91 also declined by 22.9% to 6.478 million barrels, down from 8.401 million barrels a year earlier. In contrast, exports increased by 21.7%, reaching 1.883 million barrels, compared with 1.547 million barrels during the corresponding period of 2025.
Production of Premium Motor Gasoline (M95) decreased by 2.4%, reaching 5.493 million barrels by the end of May 2026, compared with 5.630 million barrels during the same period of 2025.
Sales of M95 fell by 20.1% to 6.036 million barrels, compared with 7.551 million barrels in the corresponding period of the previous year. Exports also declined by 32.8% to 252,700 barrels, compared with 376,000 barrels by the end of May 2025.
The gas oil (diesel) production declined by 8.1 % to 29.925 million barrels by the end of May 2026, compared with 32.574 million barrels during the corresponding period of 2025. Diesel sales fell by 11.8 % to 8.149 million barrels, compared with 9.239 million barrels a year earlier. Exports also decreased by 11.1% to 23.093 million barrels, down from 25.983 million barrels by the end of May 2025.
In contrast, jet fuel production increased by 5.5% to 11.727 million barrels by the end of May 2026, compared with 11.118 million barrels during the corresponding period of 2025.
Despite the increase in production, jet fuel sales declined by 20.6% to 1.722 million barrels, compared with 2.169 million barrels during the same period of the previous year. Exports, however, rose by 20.2% to 9.706 million barrels, compared with 8.075 million barrels by the end of May 2025.
Production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) declined by 5.8% to 4.530 million barrels, compared with 4.811 million barrels during the corresponding period of 2025. LPG sales also decreased by 21.0% to 1.294 million barrels, compared with 1.638 million barrels in the corresponding period of the previous year. Meanwhile, exports recorded a slight increase of 0.5 %, reaching 1.374 million barrels, compared with 1.367 million barrels by the end of May 2025.
As for naphtha, production increased by 2.2 % to 15.603 million barrels by the end of May 2026, compared with 15.263 million barrels during the corresponding period of 2025. Naphtha sales rose by 7.6% to 5.951 million barrels, up from 5.530 million barrels in the same period of the previous year. However, exports declined by 8.1% to 9.258 million barrels, compared with 10.073 million barrels during the corresponding period of 2025.
Meanwhile, production of other refinery products declined by 19.8% to 15.825 million barrels, compared with 19.735 million barrels during the corresponding period of 2025. Sales of other refinery products also fell by 32.4% to 12.167 million barrels, compared with 18.007 million barrels during the same period of the previous year. In contrast, exports increased by 4.0% to 4.412 million barrels, compared with 4.243 million barrels by the end of May 2025.
The statistics also indicated that benzene production increased by 11.9% to 83,100 metric tonnes by the end of May 2026, compared with 74,300 metric tonnes during the corresponding period of 2025. Benzene exports also rose by 10.8% to 80,500 metric tonnes, compared with 72,700 metric tonnes during the same period of the previous year.
Paraxylene production increased to 272,000 metric tonnes by the end of May 2026, compared with 224,000 metric tonnes during the corresponding period of 2025. Its exports rose by 8.8% to 275,400 metric tonnes, compared with 253,100 metric tonnes during the same period last year.
Production of polypropylene declined by 27.1% to 100,800 metric tonnes, compared with 138,200 metric tonnes during the corresponding period of 2025. Despite the decline in production, polypropylene sales increased by 15.3% to 15,800 metric tonnes, compared with 13,700 metric tonnes during the same period of the previous year. However, exports fell by 29.8% to 77,100 metric tonnes, down from 109,900 metric tonnes during the corresponding period of 2025.
