Eastern Mountain emerges as a key summer tourism destination in Al Hamra

Al Hamra: The Eastern Mountain in Al Hamra is witnessing a surge in visitors during the summer season, driven by its mild climate, scenic landscapes and a growing lineup of tourism events and development projects that are strengthening its position as one of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate’s emerging tourist destinations.

Engineer Sulaiman bin Hamad Al Sunaidi, Director General of Al Dakhiliyah Municipality, said the governorate is implementing a range of quality tourism projects and initiatives to upgrade natural attractions, improve facilities and services, and support the continued growth of the tourism sector as part of broader economic development efforts.

He said the Eastern Mountain has become a focal point for tourism development thanks to its unique natural environment and its integration with other attractions across the governorate, offering visitors a more diverse tourism experience.

Summer activities, running until August 30, feature cultural, entertainment and community programmes designed for all age groups. The events are also helping stimulate local businesses, support productive families, empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs, and increase community participation in tourism.

Visitors can enjoy children's recreational games, cultural and entertainment performances, family seating areas with shaded canopies, stalls showcasing local products and handicrafts, SME and entrepreneur exhibits, camping facilities, and mountain hiking trails, creating a well-rounded outdoor tourism experience.

Al Sunaidi highlighted the Eastern Mountain Oasis Project as one of the governorate’s flagship tourism developments, noting that construction has surpassed 60 percent completion. Once finished, the project will provide new service, cultural and investment facilities that are expected to significantly enhance the area's tourism and recreational offerings.

Current work focuses on completing investment and service facilities, the outdoor theatre, shaded areas, landscaping and final finishing works, while ensuring the project meets the highest engineering and environmental standards suited to the mountainous terrain.

He added that the project is generating local economic value by awarding contracts to local companies and institutions, supporting SMEs, creating business opportunities and contributing to economic activity across the region.

The Eastern Mountain is increasingly emerging as a year-round tourism destination where natural attractions, seasonal events and sustainable development projects combine to strengthen Al Dakhiliyah Governorate’s tourism appeal and support Oman’s economic diversification goals.
