
Muscat: Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, received on Monday evening Dr Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and his accompanying delegation. The Speaker was accompanied by Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as part of an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.
The meeting discussed cooperation and good neighbourly relations between Oman and Iran, as well as ways to develop them in support of common interests. They also exchanged views on the latest developments in the region.
The meeting underlined the importance of using the current diplomatic momentum to support peace efforts and promote de-escalation and stability, in line with the principles of international law and good neighbourliness. This would help preserve regional security and the safety of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and international waterways.
The meeting was attended by the Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador at large, Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Hinai; Mousa Farhang, Iran’s Ambassador to Oman and various officials from both Oman and Iran.
Commenting later on the X social media platform Sayyid Badr described the discussions on the recent Iran US Memorandum of Understanding as “constructive” – especially the paragraph on the Strait of Hormuz.
The discussions affirmed a commitment to international law and toll-free, safe passage, added, the Minister.
