The Milan-based design studio Original Designers 6R5 Network is celebrating its 55th anniversary in 2026, marking more than half a century of activity across industrial consulting, architecture, and design. Founded in 1971, the studio has developed an international profile, collaborating with major companies and institutions across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Over the decades, the firm has worked with a wide range of high-profile clients, including Mapei, Florim Group, Pirelli, Artemide, and Villeroy & Boch, as well as public entities such as the Municipality of Milan. Its portfolio spans industrial design, exhibition systems, architectural projects, and strategic brand coordination, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach that bridges technical expertise and creative direction.
Among its most recognised works is the redevelopment of Milan’s Torre Arcobaleno, a former railway tower near Porta Garibaldi. Originally reimagined for the 1990 FIFA World Cup, the project transformed the structure through a bold use of colour and ceramic cladding. Over time, the tower has evolved into a symbol of urban regeneration, demonstrating how design interventions can reshape the identity of existing infrastructure. The studio has also contributed to product innovation, such as the CRAB pliers developed for Brevetti Montolit—an ergonomic tool designed for the installation of porcelain stoneware. Alongside such projects, Original Designers 6R5 Network has maintained a strong presence in exhibitions and trade fairs, producing installations and systems for organisations including ASSOPIASTRELLE and FEDERLEGNO.
Throughout its history, the studio has consistently engaged with emerging technologies and evolving spatial concepts. Its philosophy centres on the creation of “next-generation” environments that integrate home automation, virtual reality, and digital systems to foster dynamic, multimedia experiences. This forward-looking approach positions design not only as a formal or functional practice, but as a means of shaping interactive and responsive environments. The collective behind the studio—including Francesco Roggero, Albino Pozzi, Kiyoto Ishimoto, and Rita Alfano Roggero—emphasises a definition of originality rooted in anticipation, connecting diverse elements to generate meaningful and innovative outcomes.
Central to this approach is the careful orchestration of colour, texture, and material, which are treated as communicative tools capable of influencing perception and shaping the emotional experience of space. By combining tactile, visual, and sensory qualities, the studio seeks to create environments that engage users on multiple levels. As Original Designers 6R5 Network reaches its 55-year milestone, its body of work reflects both continuity and adaptation, anchored in a commitment to experimentation while responding to shifting cultural and technological contexts.
Among its most notable projects is the redevelopment of the Torre Arcobaleno in Milan, a railway tower located at Porta Garibaldi.
The redevelopment project, inaugurated for the 1990 World Cup, involved revisiting the tower's colors and materials, a process carried out in several phases over the years until it became the urban emblem it is today, a symbol of discreet regeneration through color and ceramic cladding.
