Muscat: The Royal Oman Police, represented by the General Directorate of Customs, has announced a new package of facilitations aimed at streamlining the entry and movement of transit goods through the Sultanate. In an official update, customs authorities outlined several measures designed to enhance efficiency and reduce processing time for shipments passing through Oman.

Among the key measures, empty containers will now be allowed to enter and exit without the need for a customs declaration, with inspection limited to scanning through security devices. This step is expected to significantly speed up handling procedures at ports and border crossings. For transit cargo, customs declarations will be processed electronically from the point of entry to the port based on a unified booking number system. Authorities noted that clearance procedures will apply only to shipments that have physically arrived, improving operational flow and reducing administrative delays.

Additionally, vehicles and equipment arriving from ports in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries will be exempt from requiring a customs card or export certificate, with only a transit declaration needed for passage. The General Directorate of Customs reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the business community and facilitating trade, emphasizing that these measures aim to ensure the smooth and efficient movement of transit goods across Oman. Officials added that this step reflects ongoing efforts to enhance the Sultanate’s position as a regional logistics hub while maintaining security and regulatory standards.
