First National Scientific Journals' forum focuses on quality of academic publishing in Oman

Muscat: The first National Forum on Scientific Journals kicked off in Muscat on Wednesday, with emphasis on adopting the latest practices in managing scientific journals and improving the quality of academic publishing.

The ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Saif bin Abdullah Al Hadabi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for Research and Innovation.

The forum two-day is organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation in cooperation with Modern College of Business and Science.

Besides discussing the role of scientific journals in promoting academic integrity, the forum elaborates on means of supporting Omani universities so that they could continue to improve their global rankings.

The forum reflects the Ministry’s efforts to develop the national system of scientific publishing and enhance the quality of peer-reviewed journals in line with the Sultanate of Oman’s approach to a knowledge-based economy within the context of Oman Vision 2040

An exhibition themed "National Peer-viewed Scientific Journals", being held on the sidelines of the forum, showcases examples of journals issued by higher education institutions and research bodies. It also highlights the progress that has been made so far in promoting the quality of scientific publishing.

The forum includes scholarly papers of and two sessions on related issues. The first session will discuss the reality of peer-reviewed scientific journals in Oman, while the second session deals with the role of scientific publishing councils in promoting governance and quality assurance, as well as the role of scientific publishing expert groups in publishing policy development.

The forum discusses the technical challenges facing platforms hosting scientific journals. It also includes workshops that outline strategies to improve the quality of scientific magazines.
