Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development on Tuesday launched a protocol programme on interacting with people with disabilities and their families in the Muscat Governorate.
The programme is a collaboration between the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, with 80 specialists participating.
The programme aims to qualify and empower Omani professionals to provide sustainable and inclusive services that respect the rights of people with disabilities and contribute to their effective integration into society.
It also seeks to spread awareness of proper and professional etiquette when dealing with people with disabilities and their families, and to develop effective communication skills among professionals in the field, ensuring that services are needs-based and adhere to relevant international standards and conventions.
The two-day programme will cover fundamental principles of effective communication, the main challenges faced by people with disabilities and their families, ways to meet their diverse needs, and an overview of international conventions related to their rights.
It will also feature training sessions to foster a culture of communication, respect for diversity, and provide practical skills for interacting according to established protocols.
This programme is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to promote social inclusion and integration and improve the quality of services for people with disabilities.
