MUSCAT: An Indian expatriate from the southern Indian state of Kerala passed away after suffering a massive heart attack while swimming at Kalbooh Park in Muscat on Friday.

An avid member of the Alawi Swimming Academy, the 45-year-old Indian engineer and a sports enthusiast, was identified as Krishna Nair from the Ernakulam district of Kerala.

Krishna used to work with an engineering consultancy firm in Muscat, and was popular as a swimming coach, and trekking expert. He had trained hundreds of children and residents in swimming at Khalbouh Park.

He is survived by his wife Swapna, a Kerala government employee, and two children, Raghuram Krishna and Poornima Krishna.

Condoling the untimely death of Krishna Nair, Dr Sanghavi of Alawi Swimming Academy and others said: “We are grieved to announce the sudden and unexpected demise of our beloved young captain Krishna Nair. We can’t express our grief in words. We pray to God to give him eternal peace and strength to his family to bear this irreparable loss.”

Community members and social workers said that arrangements are being made to repatriate his body to Kerala.
