Muscat: Taher Mebkhout Al-Janibi, Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, received on Wednesday a delegation from the National Defence University of the Republic of Türkiye, as part of their current visit to the Sultanate of Oman. Their visit to the Council aims to learn about its legislative powers and roles.
During the meeting, the strong historical relations between the two countries in various fields were discussed. The conversation then turned to the Shura Council’s journey, its roles, and the powers granted to it by the Basic Law of the State and the Oman Council Law.
The discussion covered the legislative process for bills referred to the Council and those proposed by the Council itself. His Excellency also addressed the monitoring tools available to Shura Council members and the working mechanisms in place, in accordance with the provisions of the Oman Council Law.
He highlighted the Council’s effective role in national decision-making and its contribution to achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
The delegation was also briefed on the work mechanisms of the Council’s permanent committees, the system of ordinary sessions in the Council, and the role of the General Secretariat in providing the necessary technical support to Council members.
As part of the visit, the delegation was introduced to the modern technologies used in the Council’s deliberation hall, where the ordinary sessions are held, and also toured other areas of the Council, including the Oman Council Library.
The meeting was attended by a number of Council members, Khalid Sultan Al-Jabri, Mohammed Salem Al-Sulaimani, and Ahmed bin Said Al-Balushi.
