Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has patronised over the official inauguration of the 'Oman Across Ages Museum' in the Wilayat of Manah in Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate, on Monday, March 13, 2023, said Oman News Agency (ONA).
A statement issued online by Oman News Agency (ONA) said: ”His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik - may God protect and preserve him - included, under his generous patronage, the official inauguration of the Oman Museum Across Ages in the Wilayat of Manah in Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate."
Upon His Majesty's arrival, he was received by His Excellency Nasr bin Hamoud Al Kindi, Secretary General of Royal Court Affairs, Chairman of the Museum's Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Main Committee of the Museum Project, members of the Main Committee, and the Director General of the Museum.
His Majesty the Sultan went to the memorial plaque of the museum, where he kindly illuminated the painting to mark the official opening of the museum.
His Majesty then reviewed the exhibition of the foundation stone, passing through the car used by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said during the laying of the foundation stone of the museum.
His Majesty visited the reception section, where the first entry ticket to the museum was issued in the name of His Majesty, and His Majesty kindly gifted it to the museum to be among the museum's collections.
After that, His Majesty the Sultan headed through the Arts Corridor to the National Day screen, which bears the symbolic dimensions of the glorious National Day, with a width of 18 meters and a length of 11 meters.
His Majesty listened to a speech delivered on behalf of the main committee of the museum project, Eng. Al-Yaqzan bin Abdullah Al-Harthi, Director General of the Museum, in which he stressed the museum's consideration of the use of the latest technologies in the museum display. He also pointed out in his speech that the design of the museum building was inspired by the glory of the Hajar Mountains and took into account in its construction its connection with the Omani environment through the materials used in its construction.
Expressing the Committee's thanks to the High Commissioner for his continuous support for the completion of this museum, His Majesty followed up on an introductory film about the Museum, which reviewed the architectural aspects of the museum and its employment of modern interactive technologies. It summarises ancient civilisations in a chronological sequence that includes the display of objects from each era, in addition to reviewing the various facilities included in the museum.
His Majesty the Sultan later toured the corridors of the museum and listened to a summary of the most prominent wings included in the museum, in the History Hall, the Renaissance Hall, in addition to the Future Hall, which included the three winning projects in the second edition of the Bilarab Bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design.
His Majesty was also briefed on the lecture hall and the Knowledge Centre's ideas and innovation labs, and listened to an explanation of a number of innovations and student projects participating from schools in Al Dakhiliya Governorate.
At the end of the opening ceremony, His Majesty the Sultan accepted a souvenir gift, a model of the museum, which was presented by His Excellency the Secretary General of Royal Court Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Museum.
