Muscat: Blood donors are now receiving a ‘thank you’ text message following each donation at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) Blood Bank.
The message also reminds the donors to visit the blood bank after three months to donate again.
The message reads “Dear donor, thank you for donating blood. Your donation saves the lives of others and benefits your health. Please visit us again after three months to donate and spread the word, with regards, SQUH.”

This text format was chosen after a two-week competition that was conducted as part of the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) College Competition on Blood Donation, which kicked off in February at SQU, and concluded in April under the auspices of Dr. Ali bin Saud Al Bimani, the Vice Chancellor of SQU.
Tens of people submitted their ideas on the best SMS text for blood donors and shared it on the @Donor1000_Om Twitter account. The initiative was started in April, according to Dr Arwa Al Riyami, senior consultant hematopathologist and chairperson of the Blood Donation Committee at SQUH.
While the text is currently only in Arabic, she affirmed that donors will soon receive ‘thank you’ texts in the English language too.
“Since international organisations promote volunteer donations, such initiatives are welcomed to thank donors for their generous and human act,” she added.
It is worth mentioning that the SQUH blood bank is open from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm from Saturday to Thursday to receive blood donors.
