Muscat: One of Germany’s finest orchestras, the Bamberg Symphony will be performing at the Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM).
The Bamberg Symphony is known for the rich brightness and depth of its characteristic sound, whether performing pieces from Europe’s great classical repertoire or cutting-edge modern and contemporary music.
Since it was founded seven decades ago in 1946, the Bamberg Symphony has become the musical hub of the local region, as well as a national cultural ambassador. It is one of Germany's most well-travelled orchestras, covering major cities across the globe from the United States to Japan.
The Bamberg Symphony was the first German orchestra to travel abroad after the Second World War, performing an astounding 6,500 concerts in 500 cities and 60 countries worldwide.
The orchestra will be conducted by the brilliant Maestro Christoph Eschenbach, who is a frequent Guest Conductor at the world’s finest orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Eschenbach has previously performed at ROHM, receiving standing ovations.
The symphony will play Brahms’ famous Third Symphony at a ROHM concert that will also feature a piano concerto by the internationally acclaimed Israeli-Palestinian pianist, Saleem Ashkar.
Since his debut at New York’s Carnegie Hall in 1998 at the age of 22, Ashkar has worked with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Chicago Symphony, the La Scala Philharmonic, the Deutsche Symphony Orchestra Berlin, and the London Symphony Orchestra.
Performing regularly with the world’s top conductors, including great maestros, such as Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, and Riccardo Muti, Ashkar has gained a reputation for playing with remarkable musicality, subtlety and grace. Ashkar is also noted for supporting musicians and music schools in conflict areas and developing countries in his role as the Ambassador to the Music Fund.
ROHM will host the Bamberg Symphony concert on Friday, April 22 at 7.30 pm. For further information and booking, consult the ROHM website at: www.rohmuscat.org.om
