Muscat: A yoga session will be held at the Indian embassy in Oman on Thursday, the embassy said in a statement.
“Yoga is part of the series of events being organised in the run up to the celebration of the 2nd International Day of Yoga (June 21) in Oman, Embassy of India, Muscat, in association with Sahaja Yoga Oman,” the statement added. The embassy had earlier associated itself, as part of a series of events being organised in the run-up to the second International Yoga Day.
The events were organised to spread awareness about yoga and its benefits among the people.
While addressing the 69th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 27, 2014, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, had urged the world community to adopt June 21 as the International Day of yoga.
Speaking at the UNGA, Modi said: “Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition. It embodies the unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature and a holistic approach to health and well-being. Yoga is not about exercise, but to discover the sense of oneness with ourselves.”
