Muscat: The Royal Hospital will be launching new developmental health projects aimed at improving health care at its Intensive Care Units (ICU), officials have said.
The Ministry of Health has revealed that the projects will be based on the LEAN strategy. They included:
Patient list: A list of all patient health data will be used to accurately document the patient's medical procedures, with the aim of enhancing the quality of the patient's health care and closely monitoring their heath during their stay in the intensive care unit.
Parents’ involvement in treatment: Through this, officials will regularly inform the patient's parents regarding the treatment and diagnostic plan during the patient's stay in the ICU. This is to keep the family informed about the latest developments in the patient's health status and to help the patient's mental and psychological state improve.
Developing a Professional Performance Improvement Board: This is being done to check the results of the development programmes that target health care services in the unit.
Developing a special area for prescriptions and medicines: This is being done in order to reduce time spent in writing prescriptions or receiving medicines and to verify the accuracy of the prescriptions.
Organising storage units: The equipment and tools used in the intensive care unit are to be organised in a scientific and systematic manner, thus helping people obtain the required tools in a smooth manner.
Reducing patient’s time in the ICU: By enhancing the quality of health care, the health of the patients will improve. Thereby reducing the length of the patient’s stay in the intensive care unit.
The intensive care unit at the Royal Hospital periodically evaluates and develops their programmes in order to improve the health care of the unit and keep abreast of the latest international diagnostic and treatment procedures in the field of intensive care.
