Muscat: Continuing its commitment towards supporting communities within the Sultanate and to create a positive environment to help the nation’s youth achieve their full potential, Omantel conducted honouring ceremonies following the third edition of the Omantel School Olympics.
With 171 winners across various sports categories, the 2016 championships were the largest and most successful iteration yet of the Omantel School Olympics sporting initiative.
The awards ceremonies took place on April 12 for girls and April 13 for boys at the Sultan Qaboos Stadium in Bausher, and were attended by prominent guests and officials from the Ministry of Education and Omantel. The chief guest for the girls’ ceremony was Sayyida Sana Hamad Albusaidi, Adviser to the Ministry of Education, while Sheikh Mohammad Hamdan Altoubi, Adviser to the Ministry of Education honoured the boys’ ceremony with his presence.
Central to Omantel’s ongoing commitment towards the nation’s youth and to support various sporting activities in the local community, the company recently announced its partnership with the Ministry of Education for this unique event. The objective of the Omantel School Olympics is to motivate students from different schools to meet, socialise and engage in friendly competition and in doing so foster friendships, reward achievements and promote a healthy lifestyle.
Commenting on the success of the Omantel School Olympics, Manager Corporate Social Responsibility at Omantel, Laila Mohammed Al Wahaibi noted, “We are very pleased to work alongside the Ministry of Education to make the vision of the Omantel School Olympics a reality. It gives us great joy to see what an immense success it has been this year, with more than 4,250 contestants taking part across different Governorates in the Sultanate and 470 contestants in Muscat. As part of our innovative 3.0 transformation strategy, we work closely with groups within the community and focus on making meaningful contributions to the advancement of youth. It is our firm belief that events such as the School Olympics will nurture healthy competition, become a platform for new talent to shine and will ultimately contribute to the future development of the youth of our nation.”
Laila Al Wahaibi also mentioned, “On behalf of the entire Omantel family, I would like to thank all the children who participated in the School Olympics and especially congratulate the winners whose talents shone and made them worthy of the special honour that was conferred to them at the awards ceremony..”
The 2016 edition of the Omantel School Olympics focused on five different sports, namely — athletics, swimming, badminton, chess and table tennis. The competition forms part of a wider program of Omantel social responsibility activities designed support to invest in youth talent within the Sultanate.
