Oman education: Modern College of Business and Science hosts TEDxMuscat Salon

Muscat: As part of its mission to support creative thinking among the nation’s youths, the Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS) hosted the well-known TEDxMusact Salon on April 7.
The event was held under the theme “Breaking Through”.
TEDxMuscat is part of TEDx—an international initiative to promote innovative and out-of-the-box thinking across communities and cultures, created in the spirit of TED’s mission of encouraging, “ideas worth spreading.”
The project encourages talented and ambitious members of local communities to speak about innovative ideas, in a bid to motivate audiences and contribute to nation-building.
The half-day event hosted speakers exploring the theme “Breaking Through”.
The first session focused on the topic ‘building blocks of successes’, where speakers analysed the crucial elements that lead to success, while the second and final session was devoted to ‘the secrets behind successful careers’.
Speakers at the event included Dr Halima Al Maskari, the first female surgeon in Oman, who narrated the story of how she overcame obstacles and challenges to realise her dream.
The second speaker was Fatima Sultan Al Mukhaini, the co-founder of The Lounge Oman, a creativity hub for youth to meet and discuss ideas. Khalfan Al Araimi, on the other hand, shared his ideas about leadership, and also how followers can be leaders.
The next speaker was Abdullah Al Saidi, winner of The Best Manager in Riyada Award-2016, who discussed the need to transform school curriculums to include games.
Fahad al Saqri explored the topic of how perfumes can be used in the concept of Smell Branding, and how Oman can take the lead in promoting the use of frankincense as medicine and cooking oil.
The success of this event would not have happened without the contribution of the sponsors, the help of the college in providing the location, and the organizers who contributed to the success of the event. The event was supported by Oman Oil, Shanfari, Al Jizawi and Biblioteaca.
“Attending TEDxMuscat Salon gave me the desire to learn more about things that matter outside of my own world. The event was amazing and it was obvious that the students had put great effort into it”,noted a member of the audience.
