Muscat: ‘Journey of life’, a solo exhibition by 23-year-old Omani photographer Anas Al Dheeb, will kick off today (Monday, 18 April) at Bait Al Zubair.
After two personal galleries in Dubai and Japan, Al Dheeb has finally decided to showcase his art locally in his first personal exhibition in the Sultanate.
The young photographer said the gallery will display images of people from Oman and other countries. A student of marketing at the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Al Dheeb is known for travelling to exotic parts of the world to photograph people. In his latest charity trip to Chad, Al Dheeb clicked many portraits of refugees who, despite the hurdles, smiled for the camera.

Al Dheeb said sadness has become a common subject for photographers nowadays. “I aim to show happiness and smiles. The world needs more smiles and moments of joyfulness, not tears of sadness,” he said. Notably, many limited edition photos of Al Dheeb were sold for OMR2,000 each in Dubai during his latest exhibition. Also, he was recently honoured by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
“I put up this exhibition in order to let more people know about my art style,” the renowned photographer said, adding that local photographers are very talented and are capable of bagging the most competitive international awards.
Al Dheeb at this young age has already won more than 35 local and international photography awards, including a gold medal in the World Cup for U21 in Germany 2014. In the same year, he bagged the first prize in the GCC in a photography contest, titled, ‘Story of light’ organised in the Middle East College. Furthermore, Al Dheeb won the top honour in the Youth Creativity Award in Dhofar.
