MUSCAT: The Zubair Corporation LLC (Z-Corp) has extended its support to the fourth edition of the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championship which is being held across Oman. The first of the matches took off at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher in Muscat where four schools from the governorate are participating. Z-Corp has been backing the tournament for the last few years with an intention to instil passion for sports among children.
The Ceremony was held under the auspices of Al Zubair bin Mohammed Al Zubair Vice-Chairman, The Zubair Corporation and attended by Dr Said Al Shahri the Chairman of the Oman Handball Association and a number of senior executives from Z-corp and Zubair Automotive Group.
The championship matches will be held in schools in Muscat Governorate, Al Batinah North Governorate, Al Batinah South Governorate, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, Dhofar Governorate and Al Buraimi Governorate.
The Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championship is being organised by Mitsubishi Oman, represented by General Automotive Company, in association with the Oman Handball Association (OHA). General Automotive Company, which is the official distributor for Mitsubishi vehicles in Oman, is a subsidiary of the Zubair Automotive Group, the flagship enterprise of the Z-Corp.
While Al Amal School won the first place, the second place was won by Ghala School. The third place was won by Al Basair and the forth place went to Al Baraim.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, Z-Corp is actively involved in supporting local based initiatives that touch the lives of children in sport. While Z-Corp has always been committed to supporting the sports sector in the Sultanate, it believes that to cultivate sporting talent in Oman, youngsters should be provided the perfect ambience to develop it.
Between January and April 2018, championship matches were organised under the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championship in Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa and Sur. 15 teams comprising of nearly 300 players, coaches, supervisors and referees participated in the championship held.
Zuwaina Al Azri, communications manager at Zubair Automotive Group said, “We have been enthused by the response to the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championship organised during the last few years. We are happy to organise it once again and are happy to take the matches to six governorates this year. The school students who are participating in the matches are Oman’s future and we are delighted to support them. We are certain with the exposure they get. Showcasing its continuous commitment to all kinds of sports, Z-Corp has been a partner and sponsor of different sports activities including football, chess, ice sports, volleyball for many years.”
In the context of augmenting public and private sector partnership Z-Corp has been backing all the activities of Oman Handball Association since it signed an agreement in October 2015. Z-Corp has played a key role in sponsoring and developing sports in the Sultanate by supporting professional and amateur sports organisation, sports clubs and competitions. The group has a strong commitment to supporting sports team, clubs and organisations across the Sultanate.
The championship has achieved its objective of creating an interest in handball among young people. It has encouraged a lot of school children to take up the game of handball.
Dr Said bin Ahmed Al Shehri, Chairman of the Oman Handball Association said, “We are happy that so many schools are involved in promoting the game. The championship has witnessed success due to the constant efforts and cooperation of Zubair Corporation, Mitsubishi, Oman Handball Association, Ministry of Education and local schools. Such championships will encourage and highlight good team spirit among students. We are extremely grateful that a group like The Zubair Corporation is supporting our association. Z-Corp commitment and support has given an enormous boost to development of handball in the country.”
He added, “Z-Corp has been supporting various activities that encourage young school children to take up sports and supporting this championship is part of that strategy. We congratulate all those who were involved and have contributed to the success of the event.”
In January 2018, Z-Corp extended support to Oman Handball Association to organise a school tournament at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Last year in March, Z-Corp supported Oman Mitsubishi Handball Joiners Championship held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Oman Mitsubishi had organised the competition in association with the Oman Handball Association. In July, to recognise the outstanding contribution of players who represented the Sultanate, Z-Corp and Mitsubishi Oman felicitated the Sultanate’s national handball players at the Mitsubishi showroom. Z-Corp also honoured the referees who participated in the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championship held across the governorates of the Sultanate between January and April 2018.
