Come Friday, the Muttrah Corniche will be transformed into a high octane racetrack when David Coulthard zips down the beautiful stretch on his ferocious Formula 1 car.
If you are a motorsports enthusiast, you should not miss the much-anticipated Red Bull F1 Showrun, organised by Red Bull Racing under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Taimur bin Assad Al Said and in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism.
Racing legend Coulthard will strut his stuff in the beautiful flowery stretch in Muttrah Corniche for the 90-minute event. Racing enthusiasts can look forward to Coulthard burning the rubber in a 1.1km stretch between Riyam Park Roundabout and Muscat Gate performing a full repertoire of donuts, burnouts, and speed stretches.
The event is scheduled to start from 2pm and will also see performances by some of Oman’s leading motorsport talents. Along with it, come epic proportions of Formula 1 style, glamour, thrills and excitement. And don’t be surprised to find yourself tapping your feet to some peppy tunes that should keep you entertained through the evening.

The Machine
The car, which accelerates from 0-100km/h in 2.4 seconds, will reach speeds of 250km/h and above. The Running Showcars have been visiting locations around the world that would not normally host a Formula 1 event and in many instances giving people their first taste of Formula 1 in the flesh. There is no substitute for the ear-splitting roar of the engine, the haze of tyre smoke and smell of burning rubber.
The Helmet
During the Red Bull F1 Showrun, David Coulthard will wear the helmet designed by Daniel Parera, a design student at the Scientific College of Design in Seeb. Parera won the Red Bull Helmet Art contest beating 70 people from various colleges across the Sultanate, along with several local artists, who participated in the competition. After the event the winner will go home with the autographed helmet.

Harthy on Vulcan Hypercar
Oman’s ace racing champion Ahmad Al Harthy will showcase Aston Martin as he gets behind the wheels of the Vulcan hypercar along the Muttrah Corniche on Friday as part of the Showrun. This is the British supercar manufacturer’s first ever street demonstration in Oman. Over 800bhp is produced through the rear wheels from the Vulcan’s monstrous 7.0-litre V12 engine, which is front-mid mounted.
