Palestine territories healthcare to be discussed at WHO meeting

Geneva: Deliberations of the 71st World Health Assembly began in Geneva yesterday with participation of as more as 194 member states at the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The Sultanate’s delegation to the meetings that will continue till Saturday, was led by Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sa’eedi, Minister of Health.
The meetings discuss the WHO work programme for the period from 2019 to 2023, public health preparedness and response, as well as a report by Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General on the health situation in the Occupied Palestinian territories including East Jerusalem and the Occupied Syrian Golan, as well as providing support and technical assistance related to the health of the population in the occupied territories.
The meeting will discuss the report of the 71st World Health Assembly, the reports of the committees and a number of technical health issues, such as global work on patient safety in order to achieve comprehensive and effective health coverage, the Geneva Health Forum 2018, and the World Conference and the World Cancer Summit 2020, scheduled to be hosted by the Sultanate.
Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sa’eedi, will chair the Sultanate’s delegation in the 5th Technical Consultative meeting of the Arab Health Ministers, as well as meeting of health ministers of the member states at the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on the sidelines of the 71st World Health Assembly.
The minister will meet with the Minister of Health of Brunei Darussalam and the Minister of Health of Lithuania to discuss topics related to health cooperation between the Sultanate and the two friendly countries.
