Significant finds unearthed at Ras al-Jinz archaeological site

Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Culture has revealed the results of the archaeological excavations at the Ras al-Jinz 3 (RJ3) site in Sur, considering it to be an important archaeological site that indicates settlements dating from the Neolithic Age to the end of the Third Millennium B.C.

Excavations carried out by the Ministry, in cooperation with a French mission from the National Centre for Scientific Research at the RJ3 site for the first season revealed indications of the importance of the site, which the mission believes to be the commercial port of the Ras al-Jinz settlement.

Among the finds dug up at the site is a locally made pottery fragment and pieces of stone vessels made of smooth stone, as well as copper tools and chisels used in the production of small beads, stone weights, and pendants, such as rings, various types of beads and part of a fossilised ostrich egg.
