Oman takes part in launch of global water agreement

New York: The Sultanate, represented by its permanent delegation to the United Nations (UN), has participated in a ceremony for lunching the international agreement “Water For Sustainable Development 2018-2028” for achieving the development objectives related to water as globally agreed upon in the Sustainable Development Plan 2030.
The new international agreement stresses the importance of optimal utilisation of water at all levels and incorporation of the issue of water in all national plans for each participating country alongwith the significance for further cementing international cooperation in the fields of science, research, and innovations for the purpose of development of water resources on a sustainable - basis.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Isa Al Harthy, the Sultanate’s permanent representative to the UN, gave a speech on the occasion, in which he reviewed the Sultanate’s efforts in management, development and evaluation of water resources in the Sultanate by putting in place the plans associated with development of the same along with conducting the research and studies aimed to explore more water resources.
He also spoke on the efforts of the Middle East Centre for Water Desalination Research in Muscat, which comprises scientists and researchers from 34 countries .
