Muscat: A delegation of eight students attended the WFUNA International Model United Nations Conference held in New York from February 8 to 11, 2018.
The students, Adveteeya Ganti, Amisha Mehta, Joshua Harris, Mohammad Fauzanuddin, Mohammad Khuroo, Nandita Radhakrishnan, Ritu Andrews and Ryan Saji were accompanied by Mrs. Maleka Ariwala, Director, Model United Nations and Indian School Al-Ghubra.
The theme of the conference was ‘Sustaining Peace’ and it featured interactive sessions and workshops with the United Nations Diplomats.
Among the students, Nandita Radhakrishnan and Amisha Mehta were the Presidents of the Security Council while Adveteeya Ganti, chaired the General Assembly - GA8. Ritu Andrews was selected as the Speaker for the Opening Plenary Session at the General Assembly and Mohammad Fauzanuddin won the Best Position Paper award.
The delegates also got the opportunity to meet, Ms. Emma M. Ashford, a researcher in the field of International Security and Foreign Policy, CATO and Mrs Bindi Patel, Permanent Missions to the UN Security Council. The trip also included visits to the Korean and Vietnamese War Memorials, the Abraham Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol.
“The WIMUN approach accurately simulates the actual proceedings of the United Nations and provided us with a true UN experience,” said Ryan Saji, Joshua Harris and Mohammed Khuroo. While Nandita Radhakrishnan and Amisha Mehta said, “It was exhilarating to lead the Security Council and represent the Council at the press conference on the latest developments in the Middle East.”
“WIMUN has exposed us to various perspectives on world affairs,” added Adveteeya Ganti, Ritu Andrews and Mohammad Fauzanuddin.
