Exhibition hall
Prior to the AGM, an exhibition hall was opened on OOC premises under the auspices of Abdallah bin Hamad Al Ali, first OOC Chairman, in the presence of a number of sports personalities. The exhibition hall encompasses historical features of Oman Olympic Committee since its proclamation, including profiles of successive OOC chairmen in addition to some sports antiquities and memorial gifts featuring OOC’s international relations.
During the AGM, Saif Al Hosni said: “By adopting the ambitious theme “Sport for Development”, the OOC Board has endeavored to achieve the desirable successes combining sport and environment as two essential components in every community. For this purpose, several specialised supporting committees were set up towards forming a new articulated stage for the Omani Olympic movement. Several studies have also been conducted so far taking advantage of some experiences obtained from various countries for guidance in the process of planning for development of the OOC’s activities and functions.”
“In the field of sports legislation which constitutes the base for further development, some articles and clauses of OOC’s Statutes were amended to keep abreast of the changes, latest developments and modern sports trends and the requirements of the present and future stages in line with the Olympic Charter. In this framework, OOC last year prepared the Dispute Resolution and Arbitration for Sport Regulation,” he said.
He credited the success of national teams and athletes to the cooperation and coordination between OOC and sports associations and committees.
“Thanks to the existing cooperation and coordination, significant achievements were made, most important of which were Oman winning the first position at the 2nd GCC Beach Games in Qatar in April 2015 and bagging 29 medals at the 2nd GCC Games in Dammam in October 2015.
“The OOC’s Planning and Follow-up Committee has significantly contributed to achieving these results by establishing the principles and standards that should be satisfied for an effective and honorable participation in external dividends,” he said.
