Muscat: The role of vocational development in achieving the knowledge economy was among the issues discussed at a high level meeting on Tuesday.
The Education and Research Committee in the State Council hosted on Tuesday at its fourth meeting for the third annual sitting of the sixth term, under the chair of Dr. Abdullah bin Mubarak Al Shanfari, Head of the Committee.
It also hosted Dr. Mona bint Salim Al Jardaniyah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Manpower for Technological Education and Vocational Training.
The officials were hosted as part of the Education and Research Committee’s study of “Education Role in Supporting the Knowledge-based Economy”.
The Committee discussed with the Undersecretary of Ministry of Manpower for Technological Education and Vocational Training the role of human resources in the production of knowledge, enhancing the capacity of national cadres and employing their skills.
The meeting tackled the role of vocational development in achieving the knowledge economy, how to activate the dimensions of the knowledge-based economy in the aspects of student education and upgrading its skills, the challenges it faces, the extent to which technology is used in the production of knowledge in technical education in the Sultanate, partnership with the private sector and encouraging it to invest in education, and the legislation necessary to activate the role of education in the provision of knowledge-based economy.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Manpower for Technological Education and Vocational Training made a presentation that included an overview of technological and vocational education and training.
