This is where you can charge your electric vehicle in Muscat

Muscat: The Public Authority for SMEs Development “Riyada” launched at InterContinental Muscat Hotel on Monday the first electric vehicle charging station in the Governorate of Muscat, in cooperation with Global EVRT, the international organisation that aims at promoting awareness about electric cars and their benefits, and Nama Group.
The charging station will be an addition to the efforts made to ensure economic diversification in the Sultanate as per the vision of the National Programme for Enhancing Economic Diversification “Tanfeedh”.
The initiative follows the success made by the electric vehicle journey via United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Sultanate during which it travelled 1,217 km.

The launching ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Hamoud bin Khalfan Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Education and Curricula who said that the launch of the first electric vehicle charging station is part of the Sultanate’s approach towards renewable energy, such as the solar and electric energy.
Dr. Al Harthy urged Omani youths and entrepreneurs to seize the opportunities provided by the green economy by establishing SMEs to benefit from this field especially the Omani economy is moving towards clean energy.
Khalid bin Al Safi Al Hraibi, Acting CEO of Riyada said that the launch comes in a bid to provide electric charging points in the different parts of the Sultanate for the vehicles that are operated with electric charging and not by fuel. These vehicles can travel for about 150 to 400 km until it needs re-charging.
Eng. Abdullah bin Said Al Badri, CEO of Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC) said that the vehicle journey from Abu Dhabi to Sohar and then Muscat aimed at introducing this kind of vehicles and displaying the technologies associated with them. It also aimed at sharing views among manufacturers, public and private organisations and relevant stakeholders.
He affirmed that Nama Group is keen on providing the required infrastructure for this type of vehicles. He noted that the regulatory bodies and operators require collaboration to develop the regulations that ensure smooth operation for this type of vehicles and provide opportunities for their expansion in the future.
Ben Pullen, Founder and CEO of Global EVRT, expressed his joy for the Sultanate’s Government interest in smart cities whose street will host the electric vehicles in the near future. He added that there is still lack of awareness among consumers about the potentials of such electric vehicles.
The seminar organised by Riyada, under the auspices of Najeeb bin Ali Al Rowas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs at Muscat InterContinental Hotel under the theme “The Future of Electric Vehicles in the Sultanate,” aimed at raising awareness of these benefits and the benefits that may be generated from them, the data on electric vehicles manufacturing, the smart cities and the development of smart and sustainable transportation in the Sultanate and the Middle East. The seminar also aimed at providing the opportunity to meet with exhibitors of this modern and innovative technology and the electric vehicles manufacturers.
Some types of electric vehicles can travel up to 400 km when they are fully charged.
