Muscat: The government-owned public transport company Mwasalat has disclosed that it will be adding new bus routes, and has purchased 100 new buses.
This is in line with the company’s vision of adding 17 routes to its services between 2015 to 2025.
A senior official at Mwasalat said this plan had been worked on for a long time, and they would be put it in operation shortly.
“We have been planning something. It’s common knowledge that we have purchased 100 buses for this purpose. Moreover, we will disclose more information on the same shortly,” he noted.
The 17 routes, which were originally planned to begin from 2015 to 2025, included Ruwi to Amerat, Mabelah, Wadi Kabir, Wadi Adel, and Muttrah. Other routes include Khoud Al Mawalih south to Burj Al Sahwa; Mabelah to Mabelah south; Khuwair to Mawalih south; Burj al Sahwa to Bausher Al Khuwair; Al Wataya to Mina Al Fahal; Al Mabelah to Souq Al Seeb to Burj Al Sahwa. Another bus is to run from Burj al Sahwa to Al Rusaili to KOM.
The remaining routes included Athaiba to Ansab industrial area; Burj Al Sahwa to Al Khoud to Al Mabelah; Muscat international airport to Ruwi and Burj Al Sahwa; and Al Athaiba to Bausher. A senior Mwasalat official remarked that he was pleased with the company coming closer to reaching its goal of adding more routes.
