Muscat: Oman's Information Technology Authority (ITA) has warned mobile phone users of fake calls from a group of people impersonating telecom companies or banks, claiming that the person has won cash and prizes.
The phone calls are phishing attempts that are used by criminals to get personal information like bank account and personal details.
“OCERT advises all users not to respond to such messages or not to share any financial or personal information, and to block such anonymous numbers or account,” ITA's message read.
ITA also informed that any communication between the customer and telecom company or bank will be through an official channel such as a call centre, social media account or website instead of such phone calls.
