Muscat: Oman’s first snow park will open later this year, authorities announced on Sunday.
The Mall of Muscat’s snow park will be the first of a new generation of real snow and ice indoor amusement parks. “Positioned to be one of the key attractions of the iconic Mall of Muscat, construction work is on track, and the snow park will open to the public in the last quarter of 2018,” authorities said.
The Al Jarwani Group is developing the snow park, in partnership with the Tamani Entertainment and Dutch company “Unlimited Snow”, both specialising in the entertainment and leisure sector. “What makes the Mall of Muscat’s snow park really special and unique is that it is totally different from any other snow park concept in the region, in terms of combining the latest snow technology, incredible attention to detail, plus the number of rides it offers.
It will also provide job opportunities to Omanis and will be one of the key tourist attractions in the Sultanate,” said Sheikh Mahmood Al Jarwani, chairman of Al Jarwani Group.
As part of the project’s development plan, a team from Al Jarwani Group has been formed to oversee the manufacturing, installation, and assembly of the snow park. The committee recently visited the contractor’s headquarters in the Netherlands and ensured that work was going in accordance to plan.
During the visit, the team visited H.E. Sayyid Mohamed bin Harub Al Said, Oman’s ambassador to the Netherlands, and updated him on the progress of this project.
Located on the third level of the Mall of Muscat, construction of the 5,600 square metre project started in 2015. A themed Alpine village facade will give the snow park a more inviting appearance to mall visitors.
The snow park will consist of snow carvings, terraces, alpine cottages and chalets, plus a souvenir gift shop.
The chemical-free snow and ice will be produced after visiting hours, and the park will have a fully automated melt-water recycling system, providing a fresh layer of snow daily.
There will also be an artificial snow fall (the snow shower feature) during visiting hours, for people to enjoy an unprecedented snow experience in the Sultanate.
Additionally, there will be light effects, a realistic star-filled sky, and snow covered trees to reflect the Alpine theme.
A signature attraction will be the snow mobile track that will weave its way through a large area of the park, featuring more than 21 special rides to accommodate different age groups.
Other attractions, many of which are making their debut, will include snow bumper cars, snow mobiles, a snow carousel, snow diggers, snow slides, snow scooters, ice climbing wall, snowball challenge, snowball arena, Alpine theatre, and an ice skating rink.
Coats, boots and socks will be provided to snow park visitors on arrival, and once they have exited the main attraction area, guests will have access to a special room to dry off.
