Muscat: The Education Council has approved the establishment of a law faculty at University of Dhofar.
The Education Council held its first meeting of the year under the chair of Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud Al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Education Council.
The meeting started with the discussion of the “Educational Excellence Award for the Omani Teacher” presented by the Ministry of Education based on the previous decision of the Council, which stems from the keenness of the council to improve the performance of the Omani teacher, in appreciation of his efforts, giving and noble message in teaching to be a new addition to the national initiatives to promote and upgrade the teaching profession and to foster a spirit of good competition in the field of education and to encourage the promotion of educational and best practices. The Council directed the Ministry of Education to proceed with appropriate measures in this regard.
The Council discussed the memorandum submitted by the Ministry of Higher Education concerning the request of the University of Dhofar to open a Faculty of Law. In line with the Council’s keenness to support private higher education institutions and to improve the quality of its academic programmes, and in line with the introduction of the required disciplines for the next stage, the Council approved the establishment of this college.
The Council also reviewed the latest developments in the preparation of Omani teachers and the process of their rehabilitation through the educational programmes offered at the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and the College of Education in A’Rustaq, as well as the private universities in the Sultanate and discussed the course of the educational rehabilitation programme. The Council also discussed the evaluation of this experiment and the mechanisms of its development in the light of current and future developments, which will push these programmes towards better horizons and meet the aspirations of the educational sector to achieve the desired quality in the programmes of teacher training in the Sultanate.
The Council reviewed a number of other reports and memoranda submitted to it by various entities, and took appropriate actions in their regard.
