Muscat: For the first time Red Bull Player One crowned a local champion last night, as Mahmoud Osama Ahmed took home first place in front of a hyped crowd of local gaming enthusiasts.
Talking immediately after his win, “Player One” Mahmoud Osama Ahmed said: “I still can’t believe it; I’ve never experienced anything like this before.” It is amazing to feel like I could be one of the best. I am friends with a lot of the other participants and they’re all at a very strong level.”
He added: “I’ve been playing this game for four years and finally it paid off. To be honest I really didn’t think I would win, but I had hope.”
The E-Sport event consisted of a fast-paced, competitive online game that blends the technicality of a real time strategy. Red Bull Player One is a 1V1 player format that challenges in-game heroes across a variety of battlefields, maps and game modes.
Players must move quickly, plan their attack and outwit their opponent, avoiding their special skills, and then plan every move. Without the support of the team, gamers cannot rely on support elsewhere; it is every player for themselves.
Only the top 16 gamers made it through to the Red Bull Player One Final to play live one-on-one matches at VOX Cinemas, City Center Muscat on January 7, 2016. Prior to the Final, the 16 qualifiers went head-to-head with 112 other local gamers during the qualification stage which took place from 18-22 December, 2015.
First prize received a gaming PC equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX950 graphics card. The second, third and fourth runner up received headphones and a GTX950 card to add speed and power to their existing gaming rig.
