A Month of Good Deeds
By time, Verily Man is in loss. Except such as have Faith, and do good deeds, and (join together) in the mutual enjoining of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy. (Sura Al Asr 103:1-3)
One of the seven pillars of Islam is Zakat, an act of financial charity, which is obligatory for those who have excess wealth. However, giving Zakat is not the only way to bless those around you during the Holy Month, and here we highlight other charitable acts that can be performed in the name of Allah and as a blessing on both the giver and the recipient.
Good Deed of the Day: Plant a Tree
(or clean up a beach)
Allah has generously provided the bounty of the earth for us to enjoy, and it pleases him when we are good stewards of that which he has given us. It is said that there is a special blessing for those who plant a tree or cultivate public land, and in Oman, this act of environmental responsibility could also be extended to cleaning up our beaches or streets.
During the Holy Month cultivate the habit of cleaning up litter when you see it on the street, in the parks, or on the beaches, and certainly don’t be part of the problem, always take your refuse with you and throw it away in the appropriate place.
