New York: Oman is among the top six countries in the Arab world in human development, according to a United Nations report.
The Sultanate came sixth on the Arab level in Human Development Report 2016, published by the UN Development Programme on its website yesterday.
With 796 points, the Sultanate came 52nd on the world level at the indicator which covered 188 countries.
Norway topped the list followed by Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark and Singapore.
The report said that during the last 25 years, significant progress has been made in human development but still many have been disadvantaged by this process and failed to enjoy these benefits due to structural barriers.
The report, which was launched under the theme ‘ Human Development for All’ said that while improvement has been made in the human development average between 1990 and 2015 , still one of each three live on low human development measured by human development index.
