School students visit Oman's State Council for a familiarisation tour

Muscat: As part of its student awareness programme, which allows academic institutions to coordinate and organise visits to the State Council, the Council on Wednesday welcomed 35 students from the Al Rumais School in South Batinah.
The State Council accords high priority to disseminating accurate information about governance in Oman in the belief that a strong nation needs its citizens, including its young people and students, to be rightly informed and involved, and to become responsible citizens.
The purpose of the visit was to enable the students to learn more about the Council’s role, its work in person and view the venue where the draft laws are processed, deliberated upon and approved. It included a detailed explanation of the functions and powers of the Council, the tasks and responsibilities entrusted to it, as well as an introduction to the organisational structure of the Council and its major organs.
The presentation also defined the profile of the Oman Council, its role and significance in governance. The difference between the State Council and the Shura Council was highlighted in terms of reference, and the draft law process. The presentation concluded after queries raised by students were answered.
During the visit, the students also toured the library and the main meeting hall to view its facilities.
