Muscat: Oman Beah has begun distributing new bins in Samail city of Dakhiliyah region in Oman. The programme is part of the campaign by Beah to handle the management of waste throughout the entire country.
The new bins are made of high quality, environmentally friendly materials that follow international standards, according to officials at Beah.
“Waste in Oman was being managed in a traditional way and dumped at different dumpsites. The mandate to shift to international standard of waste management came from the government in 2012 and, since then, Beah has begun a country-wide campaign to install an environmentally friendly waste management infrastructure,” said an official from Oman Beah. The first phase of the campaign included taking over dumpsites and landfills around the country, and building engineering landfills.
The waste collection will also include healthcare and industrial waste. Beah has already finished these campaigns in North Batinah and North Sharqiyah regions, and work is currently underway in Dakhliyah. “We have been rolling out new bins for waste collection in Dakhiliyah region since December 1st. We have also started waste collections in South Sharqiyah and South Batinah,” the official said. He added that it takes approximately 3 months to complete the process of installing bins throughout the entire governorate.
The campaign in Salalah will start next month and continue in other governorates, ending in Muscat by the second or third quarter of 2017.
