Sohar: A drug rehabilitation centre will be built at a cost of OMR1.611 million in the Wilayat of Sohar in the Governorate of North Al Batinah.
The ground breaking ceremony for the centre was held yesterday under the auspices of Sheikh Muhanna bin Saif Al Lamki, Governor of North Al Batinah, Chairman of Jusoor in the presence of Dr. Darwish bin Saif Al Muharbi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Administrative and Financial Affairs and local officials.
The implementation of the project, funded by Sohar Aluminium, Orpic and Vale Oman, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Social Development and Sohar Municipality, will be supervised by Jusoor Foundation.
The project, which is part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives by these companies, includes two units for drug addiction treatment, one unit for psychiatric and social treatment, a clinic, and administrative offices.
The construction of the project, which will be initiated this month, is expected to take 16 months after which the building will be delivered to the Ministry of Health to run and operate it.
The project, the first of its kind in the Sultanate, stretches over 40,000 square metres.
It will provide treatment and rehabilitation services for drug dependents. It will also raise public awareness against risks of addiction on individuals and the society.
