Muscat: Oman teams had a mixed day at the fifth Asian Beach Games in the Vietnamese city of Danang on Sunday.
According to information received here, Oman beach soccer team suffered defeat while the Sultanate’s handball squad started their campaign with a well-deserved victory. In the beach volleyball too Oman experienced mixed results.
In the beach soccer competition, Talib Hilal-coached Oman side were outlasted by Lebanon via penalty shootout.
The teams were locked 3-3 at the end of regulation time in but the Lebanon kept their cool in the ensuing shootout and won the honours with a 2-0 margin.
Oman play their next match against Qatar on Tuesday.
In the beach handball field, Oman were dominant in their Group B match against Sri Lanka and they capped their dominance with a 18-11, 21-10 victory.
For Oman, Nasr Khamis Al Tamtami scored eight goals while Usama Al Kasbi and Asad Al Hasani scored four goals each.
In the beach volleyball competition, both the Oman teams were in action on Sunday but only one managed to record a victory.
Badr Al Subhi and Nooh Al Jaloobi were beaten 21-10, 21-18 by the duo of Davaa and Sainaa from Mongolia.
However, the Omani duo of Haitham Al Shuraiqi and Ahmed Al Hassani defeated Japan’s Masito and Morno with identical scores of 21-13, 21-13.
