London — Sayyid Ibrahim Said Al Busaidi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, met with the President of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) on the sidelines of the Sultanate of Oman's participation in the World Travel Market (WTM) held in the British capital, London.
The meeting comes in the context of enhancing communication with international organizations concerned with travel and tourism, as well as leveraging specialized studies and indicators to support the sector's development and increase its economic and social contribution.
In this context, the World Travel and Tourism Council highlighted the Sultanate of Oman as a regional model for women's participation in travel and tourism jobs, within a briefing paper on the "Power, Efficiency and Opportunity" indicators, in which OMRAN Group features as a key partner for sustainability.
Data presented in the paper showed that women hold 28 percent of travel and tourism jobs in the Sultanate of Oman, compared to an average of 18 percent in the Middle East region, underscoring the sector's importance in providing professional opportunities for women and enhancing their participation in economic activity.
The data also indicated that youth hold 13 percent of tourism sector jobs in the Sultanate of Oman, compared to less than 9 percent of jobs across the economy as a whole, reflecting tourism's ability to provide employment opportunities for youth and open diverse career paths before them.
The "Power, Efficiency and Opportunity" framework provides a comprehensive reading of the travel and tourism sector's performance. The Power index measures the size of the sector's contribution to GDP, jobs, and investment; the Efficiency index addresses environmental performance and the use of energy, water, and resources; while the Opportunity index focuses on employment and the participation of women and youth.
Highlighting the Sultanate of Oman within these indicators lends an added dimension to its presence at the World Travel Market in London by focusing on the societal impact of tourism, alongside promoting the tourism assets, experiences, and investment opportunities with which the Sultanate of Oman abounds.
