I am surprised that almost everyone I meet looks for perfection and they manage to increase their stress level as they go along in that path.
Is there a need to ask the question “who is perfect?” Of course not because no one is and no one ever was. But perfection often has many curves. It ranges from actions to the thoughts in your minds with the latter is most devastating.
People who want you to be perfect are always flawed in many ways. Inner peace has alluded them and they look to pick faults in other people. Let’s go with the flow just like a stream of water in the valley of rivers.
I was once in that valley and many thoughts crossed my mind as I looked around. No one was around to make any judgment. I sat on a flat stone and looked around me. The place was completely isolated and it was just me, the water, rocks and the birds somewhere in Dhofar.
But the peace that enveloped me did not last long. A family of five arrived in a four-wheel drive and the peace was shattered. The children jumped up and down while the parents started to complain. The man told his wife that there was no shade or benches. The wife also had something to complain saying there were too many birds flying around.
I almost turned around and said “you should bring your own chair”s and as for the birds, it was part of our natural surrounding we live in. I just ignored them and pretended they were not there. They were looking for perfection outside their home.
Maybe there are too many things around us that are not perfect. But the “perfect imperfection” is what we need to search for and not just the flawlessness. Since there are many conflicts in life, it is the harmony we should look for. If we look close beyond many flaws, we can always find it.
Imperfection is natural and we should not be hard in ourselves. Look around you and you will see all the limitation. But do they affect our lives? Strictly speaking, all we need is to side-step many of the flaws and move on.
Also, we should not be hard on people around us and look for perfection. Why? Because we are also never faultless, either. I think people who look for perfection in themselves are afraid of failure. But you cannot succeed if you don’t make a few mistakes.
The many conflicts we see around us that will easily lead us to harmony by making a few changes in our daily routine. But also, we should not put too many restrictions as we go along. Sometimes, not everything goes according to plan.
Do you know what is the favourite past time of many people? It is to pick faults in others. Just ignore them. They don’t pay you wages, rent or bills. If they persist, tell them where to go and I don’t need to be specific about the direction they should take.
They will soon get the message and accept the faults in you, just like you accept their faults. Just a straight give and take. No harm done.
In conclusion, let us not seek for perfection, whether in ourselves or others. Let’s keep away from a turbulent routine and accept ourselves the way we are.
