Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has issued an urgent advisory warning fishermen and seafarers to exercise extreme caution in the maritime area adjacent to Ras Al Sheikh Masoud in the Governorate of Musandam.
The warning follows the sinking of the container ship GFS PRIDE on October 14, 2026, which led to floating containers drifting in the area, a number of which contain hazardous materials.
The Ministry strongly advised the public and maritime operators against approaching or handling any drifting containers, urging anyone who spots floating cargo to report it immediately by calling 7211134.
MTCIT confirmed it is actively monitoring the maritime situation in direct coordination with competent authorities to manage recovery operations and ensure public and environmental safety.
