Environment legislation forum organised in South Al Sharqiyah

Sur: The Environment Authority on Sunday organised a forum titled "Environmental Legislation: Together to Protect Turtles" in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The event was in pursuance of efforts to enhance the protection of sea turtles, conserve biodiversity and raise public awareness about legislation regulation environmental ecosystems.

The forum was held under the auspices of Sheikh Dr. Saif bin Mohammed Al Ghaithi, Wali of Sur.

The forum underscores the importance of environmental legislation as a fundamental pillar for protecting wildlife and natural resources. It also aims to foster a culture of compliance with regulations governing environmental protection, notably regulations that deal with sea turtles, which are a key component of biodiversity in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

The forum elaborates about legal and regulatory roles in protecting turtles and the marine environment under the “Law on Living Aquatic Resources”, in addition to legal measures for addressing violations against wildlife.

Participants in the forum include specialists from the Environment Authority, the Public Prosecution, the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in South Al Sharqiyah and Sultan Qaboos University.

The programme of the forum included a visual presentation on the wildlife activities of turtles at Ras Al Hadd Turtle Reserve. It focuses on the ecological value of these creatures and the importance of preserving their natural habitats.
