New York: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, met with Catherine Russell, Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting reviewed the partnership between Oman and UNICEF, priorities of the cooperation programme for 2026–2030, and opportunities to exchange expertise in supporting children’s development, building their capabilities and enhancing services provided to them.
The two sides also stressed the importance of partnership with private sector institutions and encouraging their active participation in humanitarian programmes and related industries.
The meeting discussed the humanitarian situation of children affected by conflicts, particularly in the Gaza Strip, Sudan, Yemen and Syria. The sides underscored the need to support affected children, ensure safe and sustainable access to humanitarian assistance, maintain the provision of healthcare and education, and provide the protection needed to safeguard their rights, dignity and future.
In a separate meeting, Sayyid Badr met with Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs. The meeting covered a number of Arab and African issues of common interest, as well as diplomatic efforts to contain conflicts and create conditions conducive to political settlements that respect the sovereignty and security of states and respond to peoples’ aspirations for peace and stability.
The US official praised Oman’s approach and its role in bringing viewpoints closer together and promoting opportunities for reconciliation and peace in the region.
The two sides also affirmed their commitment to continuing constructive efforts to strengthen Omani-American cooperation and partnership and advance their shared interests and aspirations for the benefit of the two friendly countries.
