More Than 800 Participants Take Part in Olympic Day 2026 at The Village

More than 800 individuals from various segments of society participated in the activities of Olympic Day 2026, organized by Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), represented by the Oman Committee for Sport and Active Society, on Monday at The Village in Al Hail North. The event was held under the patronage of H.H. Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said, President of OOC, and was attended by a number of OOC Board members and members of the community from different age groups. The event brought together sports, awareness, entertainment and community engagement, marking Olympic Day and promoting physical activity and the Olympic values and principles.

The event attracted a diverse attendance of citizens and residents from different age groups, along with a number of sports personalities and representatives of participating entities. Attendees engaged with a wide range of programmes, including sports activities, interactive experiences, awareness booths and entertainment areas, providing participants with opportunities to be physically active and learn about a number of Olympic sports in an open community setting.

Olympic Day activities began with wide participation in a 1.7-kilometre walk held along the waterfront road in Al Hail North. The walk brought together participants of different ages, highlighting the importance of physical activity and collective participation. It was one of the key highlights of the event, alongside various sports activities held at designated areas throughout the venue.

The sports programme featured a variety of sports and activities, including taekwondo, karate, athletics, badminton, table tennis, teqball, sepak takraw, 3x3 basketball, wheelchair basketball, and tennis. Participants had the opportunity to learn about and try these sports, while interacting with participating athletes, specialists and coaches. The programme aimed to bring sport closer to members of the community and encourage them to discover sports that match their interests and abilities.

The event also featured the “Strongest Man” competition, which gave participants the opportunity to test their physical abilities through a series of strength challenges, including the deadlift challenge involving a car lift and the log lift challenge. The competition added a competitive element to the Olympic Day sports programme and attracted considerable interest from attendees.

As part of the accompanying programmes, the event also saw the announcement of the winners of the “Fitness Challenge”, which had been conducted over the preceding weeks and involved a number of participants. Final measurements were carried out and the winners were announced during Olympic Day, concluding a journey focused on the importance of maintaining physical activity and adopting healthy habits as part of daily life.

The awareness component received particular attention as part of the event programme, with a number of OOC supporting committees taking part. The Oman Committee for Sports Medicine provided information and guidance on athletes’ health and the safe practice of physical activity, while the Oman Anti-Doping Committee addressed sports integrity and the importance of clean and responsible sporting practices.

The Oman Women in Sport and Equal Opportunities Committee delivered awareness messages on women’s participation and presence in sport, while the Oman Athletes Committee provided information on athletes’ rights and needs. The Oman Committee for Sport for Sustainable Environment addressed a number of topics related to environmental sustainability and the role of sport and the community in protecting the environment.

The event also included a number of community and awareness booths in cooperation with Special Olympics Oman Association and Oman Cancer Association. These booths provided attendees with an opportunity to learn about the initiatives and services offered by the participating organizations and engage with relevant health and community topics. A medical screening corner was also held in cooperation with a number of health centres in Al Seeb, providing attendees with a range of awareness services and health screenings.

Children and families formed an important part of Olympic Day activities, with dedicated areas for sports and entertainment activities, including skateboarding, drawing and colouring, face painting, as well as a range of games and interactive activities. These areas provided families and children with an engaging space to participate and enjoy the event, connecting movement and physical activity with play and everyday experiences.

The event highlighted the importance of broadening the concept of sports participation to include all members of society, rather than limiting physical activity to athletes and specialised practitioners. Through a range of simple and diverse activities that can be enjoyed collectively, participants were introduced to different sports and given opportunities to experience and engage with them.

The event also reflected OOC’s commitment to strengthening the presence of sport within society and promoting Olympic values centred on respect, cooperation, participation and excellence. It further raised awareness of physical activity, health, sports integrity and sustainability, while providing members of the community with an opportunity to learn more about the role of OOC, its supporting committees, and sports and community organizations in supporting sport and promoting its culture.
Olympic Day 2026 was organized under the theme “You Can Do This! Let’s Move”, reaffirming the importance of making movement and physical activity part of everyday life and encouraging members of the community to adopt more active lifestyles and embrace sport as a means of promoting health, connection and community participation.

The event forms part of OOC’s efforts to strengthen engagement with the community and deliver sports and community initiatives and programmes that expand participation in physical activity, promote awareness of the Olympic Movement and its values, and strengthen partnerships with various relevant organizations and institutions, supporting the presence of sport across different aspects of everyday life.
