Green Artificial Intelligence alliance established in Oman to advance sustainable digital economy

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology today held the inaugural founding meeting of the Green Artificial Intelligence Alliance. The meeting was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the Authority for Public Services Regulation, and was attended by Their Excellencies the Undersecretaries and a number of representatives from government and private sector entities.

The meeting discussed the Alliance's directions and work streams. These focus on deploying artificial intelligence and high-performance computing technologies in a sustainable manner. They also aim to enhance the use of renewable and green energy in developing and operating these technologies.

The meeting approved the founding document of the Green Artificial Intelligence Alliance in the Sultanate of Oman and formed the Alliance's Technical Committee, in addition to reviewing the 2026 work plan. This establishes clear pathways for implementing the Alliance's objectives in the coming phase.

The establishment of the Alliance is a national initiative that brings together government entities, the private sector, and academic, research and investment institutions. It aims to build a national ecosystem supporting green artificial intelligence. It also seeks to provide a knowledge platform that attracts local and international partnerships. Furthermore, it supports the development and implementation of green initiatives and projects with sustainable economic impact.

Green artificial intelligence is gaining growing importance in Oman's journey towards a sustainable digital economy. It is a key enabler for achieving the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 by balancing economic development with environmental protection.

Adopting low-emission artificial intelligence technologies and energy-efficient, environmentally friendly high-performance computing also helps improve energy efficiency.
